Every business that operates within Las Vegas is required by local and state law to have a licence. This applies whether that business is intended to be temporary or permanent and irrespective of whether it is operated from commercial or home premises. Furthermore it is important that each business maintains a current licence at all times.
The business licence requirements will differ dependent upon the type and product or service being offered, but it all cases before being processed every business has to ensure that they have complied with and secured the other required certificates and licences applicable to their specific industry. For example, a business that is the food sector will need to prove that their premises and employees services have been certified as having met the appropriate level of health, safety, and food handling conditions.
Operating without a currently valid business licence is a legal offence and the proprietors of a business in this situation can expect severe penalties to be imposed if this is found to be the case.
This business licensing system means that any member of the public can check the validity of a business that they have contact with or perform transactions with in the Las Vegas area. There a number of ways that this task can be completed. In the first instance and providing you know the business name or licence number, perhaps the easiest method is to contact the Las Vegas Department of Finance and Business Services.
Two approaches can be taken with this organisation. The first is to use the quick search facility available on their organisation’s website (see link [1] at foot of this article). However, it is noted on this site that this search will not provide a definitive record of whether the licence being enquired about has any action pending against it, or if it is still valid. Furthermore, it is not clear whether this approach will provide information relating to forged or revoked business licences. Therefore, to secure a more accurate response to your enquiry it is preferable to make direct contact with the department by telephone, which at the time of writing is stated as being (702) 226-6281.
In addition, other special business licensing departments can be contacted. For example, if the enquiry is related to a contractor, the Nevada State Contractors Board has a website that allows licences to be search by members of the public and also publish a telephone number (see link [2] below).
In each of the search cases stated within this article the sits allow this to be conducted by business name, location or licence number. Furthermore, although there is other methods of checking Las Vegas business licence numbers it is considered that, as these connections are direct to the departments which issue the licences, these are the most appropriate organisations to approach if you want to verify a Las Vegas business licence number.
